Yam burger is a sweet and nourishing food. However, people hardly know it by the name despite being heavily consumed.

It is a super healthy meal, a delight for vegetarians. It is also an excellent source of energy with several nutrients, a very good choice to serve at anytime. It is a power-packed meal with mouthwatering flavors.

Yam burger is a good alternative to brown beans burger (Akara) and even potato burger, with a little tweak to the recipe. It is prepared using different methods. It is so stress-free and straightforward that it just might become a basic food.

  • Blended bean
  • Salt and seasoning
  • Groundnut oil
  • Peeled yam
  • Pepper
  • Water
  • Bowl and mixer/spoon
  • Chopped onion

Peel yams and cut into fries not wider than 1/4. Thin fries have the best chance of getting crispy while frying.

On the other hand, mix the blended beans with salt, seasoning, half of the chopped onion, pepper and water. The beans should be thick like Akara beans.

Put fries in a bowl, toss with the mixed beans and sprinkle with little onion. Lay down a plate or tray and place fries on it in a single layer. If you have more fries than will fit without overlapping a lot, you may need an extra plate.

Place frying pan on heat, pour in the groundnut oil and the remaining onion and leave till the onion is golden brown then place in the fries gradually and fry and flip over for about 5 minutes so as the yam will cook within.

When ready, they should be golden brown just like akara balls and that’s it! Your Yam burger is ready.

Enjoy with Ketchup, fried pepper or mayonnaise
