Why Airplane has been flying at bird level in Akoko community

There have been so many worries and doubt among the citizens living in Akoko most especially in the Akungba community over the constant appearance of a yellow and unidentified plane that have been moving around for more than 3 days now.

A circular released by the Ministry of Mine and Steel Development which was received by our reporter said, we hereby wish to notify the general public that the Mineral Sector Support for Economic Diversification (MINDIVER) project, a World Bank assisted project under the Ministry of Mine and Steel Development will embark on an Airborne Geophysical Survey Activity in Nineteen (19) state of the federation ( covering 112 local Government Ares) to determine accurate mineral location using the modern-day aeromagnetic mechanism.

However, the state to be covered by the survey includes; Kwara, Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ogun, and Ebonyi. Others are Enugu, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Kaduna, Niger, Kogi, Taraba, Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, Bauchi, and the F.C.T

The minister stated that the survey will be measuring the minor variation in the earth’s magnetic fields and gamma radiation in the soil. It is a positive technique that does not involve sending out any signal or sound waves into the ground and therefore remains a very safe aerial survey.

Moreso, the survey is slated to start in June 2021 and will run through a period of about eight months but not less than a month over a state, depending on the weather conditions. It was also known that a similar survey took place between 2003-2007 and 2009-2011 which was conducted over the entire country but remained largely unnoticed among Nigerians.

Finally, the ministry has called on the state and local government that would be covered by this survey not to panic either as a result of the loud noise of the aircraft due to the low flying altitude maintained by the aircraft or the pattern of movement of the aircraft.

The announcement has become necessary given the current security in the country so that people do not get misinformed and entertain unnecessary fears that may lead to tension in the society.
