UI defeats AAUA in NANS SouthWest inter-tertiary debate

Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, (AAUA) Ondo State was defeated by University of Ibadan (UI) at the on-going National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) SouthWest inter-tertiary #ClashOfThoughts debate competition on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos.

The competition was organized by the executive members and planning committee of NANS Southwest. In the spirit of national unity, the debate is to discover and harness the strength of the youth and education.

AAUA was represented by two experienced and intellectual debaters — Ikulajolu Adesola, the current president of Mass Communication department and Adediwura Williams from the Faculty of Science.

Truth be told, the two representatives — Diwura and Adesola — succinctly prepared and researched with facts and figures with germane and relevant points to face the Premier Univeristy in the semi-finals of the competition.

Before making it to the semi-finals, AAUA qualified into the debate competition with 72 percent. However, AAUA could not make it to the finals not because of the defeat to UI, on the other hand, they did not make it to the best 10 in the competition.

Unfortunately for AAUA representatives after articulating their points had 66.3 percent, while Unibadan defeated AAUA with 93 percent progressed to the finals.

According to the chief judge of the competition, none of the 10 schools that qualified for the final got less than 81 percent.

Out of 30 institutions that participated in the #Clash OfThoughts debate competition, AAUA made it to the finals.

If AAUA had won, the University would have been N400,000 richer as the competition’s the cash prize for the grand winner.
