The Student and the Union: AAUASU Begins Program on AAUA Radio

The Student Union of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko (AAUASU) has commenced a radio programme on AAUA Radio in a bid to promote the dealings of the Union and the students on air.

This is after the union got the approval, to start her program, tagged “the students and the union’ to air the programme on the University-owned radio station, known as AAUA Radio 90.3FM.

In view of this, the Student Union from the office of the Public Relations Officer; Adegbeyeni Oluwafemi popularly referred to as Barryfem designed a programme tagged “the student and the union”. The programme which would air every Tuesday by 2pm was organized to articulate and proffer solutions to problems students are facing on and off campus.

The program is designed primarily for the students and the union just as the name implies; ‘the students and the union’ is going to be a program analysing and discussing issues concerning students and their interests, matters arising in and out of campus and union activities.

In an interview with the student union PRO, he disclosed that the programme is the first of its kind and it has been approved by concerned authorities.

He added that the purpose of the programme is to take and promote the union on air for good public relations and also tackle issues concerning the students in areas of accommodation, transportation, academics, security etc. “There will also be interviews with the likes of the Dean of student affairs, HOD of department and possibly the Vice Chancellor”.

Ikulajolu Adesola, the president of mass communication department who is also a collaborator and one of the presenters of the programme explained that the program is aimed at creating a link between the students and management to seek immediate actions to issues affecting students.

“Some of the challenges we aim to tackle is all about students welfare in all aspect. We want students to speak up and speak out.”

He explains that the program will be aired on Radio AAUA 90.3 FM.. Every Tuesday by 2:30PM by which there can still be an extension.

“The program is designed to allow listeners to call-in, but for the meantime at this initial stage, we shall be accepting text messages and Whatsapp messages”
