The student union of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko has embarked on a sanitation journey throughout the school environment yesterday.
The program, tagged ‘Clean AAUA’, was held in the school premises where the participants voluntarily got rid of waste and dirt in the school environment.
Present at the venue was the student union executives, led by Ogunsanmi Kolade (Multiple), political aspirants in the school, legislators and some members of judiciary.
The program is to ensure the school environment is clean due to the absence of cleaners who stopped work because of non-payment of wages.
It is also in line with the SDG goal of Environmental and sustainability solutions
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Olugbenga Ige, also graced the event. He commended the students’ effort and also promised to continue to support the Student Union body in achieving their objectives for the semester.
While addressing the volunteers, he implored the students to avoid littering the school premises and make use of any available dust bins.
In an interview with AAUA Insider, Akinsulure Simbo (Asimbi) -Public Relation Officer of the union- thanked God for the success of the event and urged the students to be involved in forthcoming AAUASU programs.
He said, “I appreciate the entire student populace for their involvement and composure during the project. I further urge the students to be actively involved in the various forthcoming AAUASU programs”
The welfare director of the school, Odole Mojisola (Voice), reiterated that the program is held to reinstate the importance of cleanliness not only in school but in the environment.
She said, “It is believed that the state of the environment distinguishes a cultured and civilized society from an underdeveloped one.”
“As such, the program held today isn’t just about cleaning the school environment but sensitizing the students on the need to keep their environment tidy. Not just the environment but even their personal hygiene.”
“The environment has given a lot to us, the school has and is training us so necessity has been placed on us to give back to the society”, she noted
Voice thereby urged and advised students’ globally to inculcate the habit of keeping a healthy hygiene and also giving back to the society no matter how little it is.
