Student asks concerned bodies to name Northern Small Gate after Sampraise

An auspicious student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) Ondo State, Babatunde Akingbondere, has asked concerned bodies to name the Northern Small Gate of the school after the late Sampraise.

The law undergraduate in “an appeal”, called for the immediate adoption of the name “Adesomoju Samuel”, the former president of the Student Union.

Recall that Sampraise was one of the victims that lost his life to the fatal truck accident in Akungba on Saturday, January 23, 2020.

Mr Tunde titled the appeal, “AN APPEAL TO THE COLLECTIVE CONSCIENCE ON THE NEED FOR THE IMMEDIATE ADOPTION OF THE NAME, “ADESOMOJU SAMUEL” AS THE ONLY INSIGNIA DENOTING THE NORTHERN GATE BASED STUDENT UNION BUILDING”.

He said, “ADESOMOJU Samuel has beyond reasonable doubt covered the field and hence, worthy of being reckoned with the student Union building.”

“Naming the student union building after him[Sampraise] is the least of honours and can indirectly respect the fellow compatriots who joined him in the sudden and weird journey.

“I am concluding on an humble note, seeking the clamour of the collective people: the SRC, past and present Executives, notable stakeholders, over 15,000 AAUITES.”

In his three major points, the law undergraduate opines that Sampraise deserves to be immortalized based on his past struggles for the entirety of the students.

He mentioned the effort of the former president to effect a a barricade in Akure for days to challenge the hike in tuition fee. He also recalled the Titanic struggle Sampraise led called “No Light, No Lecture”. He also holds the memories of Sampraise as fighter against injustice, marginalization, repression and indiscipline.

AAUA students react

In seeking the perspectives of some students on the Akingbondere Babatunde’s submission to immortalize Sampraise, this correspondent engaged students of the University.

AyodejiFasayi, a sophomore student of Public Administration said, “Actually it has been the habits of our leaders to always honour those that have died most especially the heroes and reasonable icon so according to what Akingbondere said I think it is not going to be a bad idea if student Union building is named after ‘Akinsomoju Samuel'”

Another respondent, Abdulfatahi Adebayo, a 400 level student of Linguistics said, “it is a good idea if the school management can take this into consideration, we can do this  in remembrance of our fallen heroes and heroines”.

Agbelusi Samuel an honorable member of the Somassa SRC, said, “It will be a very great and fantabulous idea to rename the SUB building after him.

“Sampraise is a man who has this leadership qualities and is someone we need to emulate cos his legacy in AAUA needs to be remembered.

“Judging from personal experience, this guy was the most critized president of AAUA and yet he perform and took everyone along during his Administration.

“I see no bad idea if they rename the building after cos he truly deserve it”.
