The Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba football team popularly referred to as the AAUA Luminaries have qualified for the 2021 Higher Institution Football League (HIFL) season after a 2 – 1 victory over NDU football team.

The moment came in the 32nd minute when Adekimoye Oluwatobiloba Omotayo opened the scoring for the AAUA Luminaries from a perfectly curled free kick close to the corner side of the pitch. NDUOilers managed to find the back on the net in the 55th minute but was ruled out as an offside.
AAUA Luminaries effort on goal in the 59th was denied by NDUOilers goalkeeper Churchill Eaglet.
However in the 73rd minute, Omotayo got his second of the evening with a well placed shot just outside the 18-yard box.

NDUOliers’ striker Endurance Ezekiel managed to put one behind AAUA goal keeper towards the end of the game for the Oilers from a spot kick.

With the result, AAUA Luminaries finished the pre-league tournament second with 6 points, thereby grabbing the final slot in the for the main competition.
After four matches each, University Of Benin finished qualifiers as the group leader with 10 points; NDU came third with 5 points while FUPRE occupied the 4th position with 3 points and FUOYE came last with just one point.
Omotayo who doubles as the team’s captain was name the match of the match for majorly scoring a brace in the crucial match.
The team is expected to be back in Akungba by Monday where they will be welcome joyfully by AAUAites.
