Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba alumna, Aminat Adeniyi hope of winning an Olympic medal has been crushed after she failed to make it to the semi final round of Women’s freestyle 62kg category at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympic.
Aminat who is the National Champion in Wrestling in Nigeria since 2009 till date lost to her Ukrainian counterpart I. Koliadenko by fall in the quarter match earlier this morning.
The 2018 Commonwealth Gold medalist would have been guaranteed at least a Bronze medal if she had won the fight but her 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games journey has come to an end.
Aminat graduated from the department for Political Science in 2012. while at AAUA, she was the sporting director of the department of political science between 2010- 2011. She was also voted unopposed as the sporting director of the faculty of the social and management sciences of Adekunle Ajasin University between 2011-2012, the post she held till she finished her first degree in 2012.
In 2014 she won a Gold medal in freestyle 58kg wrestling Glasgow Commonwealth Games and in 2020, she won the silver medal in the women’s freestyle 62 kg event at the 2020 African Wrestling Championships.
