Sunshine Stars FC’s unimpressive away records in 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League season continued on Sunday after they were beaten by Plateau United by 2-0 at the New Jos Stadium.
Muhammad Zulkifilu put the host ahead in the 21st minute of the encounter after shooting into yhe bottom corner of the goalkeeper’s post assisted by a cross from a throw-in.
Plateau United controlled the rest of the first half but failed to capitalise on other chances created in the first 45minutes of the match.
The Owena Whales came all out in the second half to restore disparity in the encounter but their hope was soon dashed when Haggai Kattoh doubled the lead for the host with a curled free kick in the 68th minute.
Sunshine Stars’ efforts to grab a consolation goal in the match were futile as the win took Plateau United points to haul to 41 points, comfortably sitting second on the table with just one point adrift of the league leader, Rivers United.
The defeat leaves Sunshine Stars 8th on the league table with 26 points from 19 matches in this campaign so far.
Plateau United will travel to Ijebu Ode for the reverse fixture on Sunday, 27 March in matchday 20 of the NPFL.
Meanwhile, in other results of the matchday 19 from Saturday NPFL matches, Heartland Fac was held to a goalless draw by MFM FC; Abia Warriors played a two-all with Katsina United; Rangers Int’l defeated Lobi Stars by 5-3 as Dakkada FC 2-1 against Niger Tornadoes.
On Sunday, table leader, Rivers United got a comfortable 4-1 victory against Akwa United; there was no goal in the match between Wikki Tourists and Enyimba Int’l; Remo Stars kept a clean sheet against Kwara United as they won the encounter by 3-0 while Kano Pillars thrashed Gombe United by 3-1 and Shooting Stars won 1-0 at home against Nasarawa United.
