BEING THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT DAY SPEECH DELIVERED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE ADEKUNLE AJASIN STUDENT UNION, COMRADE OGUNSANMI KOLADE OLUMIDE (MULTIPLE), ON WEDNESDAY , 17TH OF NOVEMBER, 2021.

PROTOCOLS

Without mincing words, today shall continue to be on the good books of history as it marks the 82nd anniversary of all distinguished students all over the world. It is a day to reminisce the labor of some of our past heroes who put their lives on the rope to fight for a society where all lives, irrespective of the cultural affiliation matter and respected.

The commemoration of this day, especially to Nigerian students is specifically in line with acknowledging the courageous efforts of our comrades in the liberation of the students from varieties of untold oppression

It is not a news that students in every part of the world represent the larger percentage of the total world populace. This statistics is not in anyway different in Nigeria and every responsible student leaders must ensure that their overall welfarism and interest is not jettisoned.

Here in Adekunle Ajasin university, we came in barely few weeks ago and have began to execute some of our manifestoes for the betterment of our union and the enhancement of the common interest of Nigerian students.

Distinguished members of the Press, I am happy to announce to you that the Student Union of this great citadel of learning shall be launching an entrepreneurship acquisition programme, named ONE AAUAITES, ONE SKILL in no distant time. This robust project is geared towards fishing out potential entrepreneurs amidst the student populace and empowering them with the necessary trainings to become useful to themselves and the country at large. The programme will envelope varieties of 21st century practically oriented courses like Web design, graphics design, catering, event decoration, copy writing and blogging and many more. Without any iota of doubt, thousands of AAUAITES will benefit from this project.

I hereby use this opportunity to appeal to the ondo state government as well as the University management to reintroduce and make effective the work and study scheme for the purpose of lifting the hands of the struggling students within the institution.

I also want to implore the governor of ondo state to consult with the federal government in a bid to find a lasting solution to the menace of truck accidents on Akungba-Ikare road. It is indeed sardonic that the government has chosen to be insensitive to this issue, despite the fact that it has sent many, including some of our students into early grave. The issue of these heavy duty trucks plying our roads in an oppressive manner has continued to instill palpable fear in the student populace. We are emphasizing again that we are using the occasion of this day to call out the state government as well as the federal government to do the needful by restricting the operations of trucks on our roads with immediate effect. The Federal Government should also begin efforts towards dualizing the road in a bid to reduce the menace of accidents on the road .

We also want to appeal to the state government to influence various infrastructural facilities like WIFI, standard lecture theatres, enabling solar panel, hostels and other facilities into this institution as this will go a long way in providing more enabling environment for both the lecturers and the student populace. We also want to urge all philanthropists, alumni association and other good minds to partner with the Student Union in a bid to foster the infrastructures on our campus.

Furthermore, we want to appeal to state government to, as a matter of urgency, pay bursary to indigent students in our institution and the state at large

In conclusion, I join all AAUAITES and all generality of students at large to celebrate this awesome day and urge us all to stay committed in a bid to achieve academic excellence.

Long live AAUA

Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Aluta Continua! Victoria Ascerta.
