Make right choices for your career

“I’ve learned that making a ‘living’ is not the same thing as making a ‘lifestyle” –Maya Angelou

A good place to start the definition of career is the dictionary. Then you could ask people about what they do for a living.

According to Webster dictionary, a career is defined as a profession for which one trains and which is undertaken as a permanent calling. This is totally different from a job, which is a position of employment or work.

Career -what you want to be- require various level of preparation starting from primary school and secondary school which are an important path to the future.

Schooling only helps you to put yourself in pictures to visualize and explore what you have the capacity to become, regarded as self-discovery.
Self-discovery is the act or process of gaining knowledge or understanding your abilities and character. Knowing this helps us to identify our abilities and how we can leverage and develop them.

The fact that people can know what they are passionate about makes it easier to grasp the concepts and accept them. Thus, we find paths that we want to pursue and will make us happier.

Interest is also one major factor that can wield much influence on your career choice.

When making decisions on career choice, interest is essential. It is a part of who you are and what experience you have.

Interest should come from your capabilities (natural talents), aptitudes (potentials) and abilities (skills)

Don’t choose a career just because it seems glamorous, exciting or adventurous and because someone you know is doing or has done well in it. Don’t choose a career because you were told or persuaded to do it. Don’t choose a career path just because there is job availability in it.

Your career, among other things, is what you are fashioned for. It is a call from within, which inevitably finds its application or expression in the society and time you live in.

Garth Nix said, ‘Does the walker choose the path or the path, the walker?’ Think about it.
