As the heat of the NASS election is increasing with common and breathtaking campaigns from aspirants at major places on campus, AAUA INSIDER decided to greet the aspirants and engage an aspirant for the position of the Vice President of Nigeria Association of Science Students- Ajayi Peace Ayonimofe ‘Mofe’ in an exclusive interview.
KINDLY INTRODUCE YOURSELF.
I am Ajayi Peace Ayonimofe, a 300level student of the Department of Computer science, Adekunle Ajasin University.
TELL US LITTLE OF YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND.
I graduated secondary school 2017 and gained admission into Adekunle Ajasin University in 2018
WHAT POST ARE YOU ASPIRING FOR?
I am aspiring for the position of Vice President, NASS 002 of Nigeria Association of Science Students.
OF ALL VITAL POSITIONS, WHY VICE PRESIDENT?
Well, I have been thinking about it for a very long time, it has always been in me, I will like to be given an opportunity to represent my peers and see changes.
I feel being a Vice President, I will be able to touch different aspects and work with a lot of people to bring about change in the association. I can represent the student body well and support the President as a Vice president.
WHAT LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE DO YOU HAVE FOR THIS POSITION?
I have no leadership experience but i relate well with people.
WHAT ARE THE QUALITIES YOU POSSESS?
If elected as a vice-president, I will bring my listening skills, patience into the position. I can relate well with people.
IF ELECTED, WOULD YOU DO BETTER THAN THE OUTGOING VICE PRESIDENT OF NASS?
Yes, I will do better than her though she tried in her own way. Her administration was very good.
WHAT ARE THE MEASURES YOU’RE PUTTING IN PLACE TO WIN AND ARE YOU RESOLUTE?
I have been campaigning both physically and online. I have met with some stakeholders of the association. I am confident I will win.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THE NEW E-VOTING AND THE HIKE IN FORM FEE?
In my opinion, the outgoing administration paid the exact amount, so i don’t have any issues with the price of the forms. About the E-voting, i am a computer science student, so I support the E-voting because it’s a type of ballot and it is stated in the constitution that election should be by ballot. We are association of science students, we are meant to be evolving.
IF YOU LOOSE, WILL YOU ACCEPT DEFEAT?
Yes, I will accept defeat and believe its God will. Its not a do or die affair.
WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT IF YOU EMERGE AS THE VICE PRESIDENT?
One of the issues facing NASS, is the issue of academic welfarism cause the welfarism of NASSites is not good. When I emerge I will make sure it changes.
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM OF ACADEMIC WELFARISM NASSITES ARE FACING?
Most students academic are a bit shaky, some students says classes does not hold, I as a Student I have to go to the main library to read because the NASS Library is not functioning, when I emerge, I will work with the Librarian to provide good books in the library and create tutorials for students from 100level to 400level.
Also, financial stability of student is also another issue of academic welfarism, when I emerge, I am hoping we can work on that, collect grants from government, and philanthropists to help student indigent students.
WHAT OTHER CHANGES SHOULD WE EXPECT?
When I emerge, I will like to hear from students on changes they would like to see in the faculty of Science
