As the heat of the Student Union election is increasing with common and breathtaking greetings from aspirants at major places on campus, AAUA INSIDER decided to greet the ‘political greeters’ and engage an aspirant for the position of the Treasurer of the Union – Adebayo Adewale ‘DON’ in an exclusive interview. Excerpts…

Kindly give a brief introduction of yourself

I am Adebayo Adewale also known as DON, a student from the department of Banking and Finance 300 level student also an aspirant for SUG 005 (financial secretary)

Tell us about your educational background and the post you re aspiring for?

I attended complete child development school, that was my primary school days, I was the class captain then when I was in SSS3, and I attended Imade college Iwo, and I am starting my first degree here at Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko, (AAUA) studying Banking and Finance.

Why the position of SUG 005 instead of other position?

I prefer SUG 005 to other positions, one because am a banking and finance student as I said earlier and I believe that is the best position ever that is suitable for me.

Do you currently hold any leadership? If yes, how is it preparing you for the aspiring office?

I am not really holding a political post for now, but I once serve as an Honourable representing my department at the faculty level SOMASSA SRC too and I later contested for the post of SUG SRC which I loss. Because I believe representing the interest of my people.

Why didn’t you lose hope after you loosing at the faculty SRC election?

Sure, I can take to defeat and I usual take defeat as I means to go higher.

Did you institute any change or moved any motion when you were still member of the SRC at the faculty level?

I can’t really remember that if I truly moved a motion but change I never allow the interest of my Noble department trampled on.

What are your campaign mandate while campaigning for the position of SUG 005?

There is something I believe in which are; Transparency, Accountability and Accuracy.

Can you share more light on those three (3) areas?

My priority is to make my knowledge as a financial student to give an accurate documentation with proper accountable financial status of the union transparent to AAUAite at large if I am giving the opportunity to service as the financial secretary of this Noble citadel of learning.

You will agree with that ‘money is the root of all evil’ as money attracts and it is very easy to spend?

Sure, you are right but am not enticed by money but we know we can’t all be faithful in that way but have always been putting in my best to avoid that. and God has been helping me.

How do you intend to deal with the documentation of financial report when you get to the office?

Thank you. I will always try to that I and the treasurer work hands in hands both to the bank also to get accuracy in the financial statement. Because they will help in formulating of the documentation.

What are the challenges you see that most Treasures do face but you want to make a difference?

Time delay. Because most of the time, time as always being a hindrance, in what way; to get information required from bank, at times errors that may occur through improper input of data, these are challenges faced by this office most times.

Are you trying to make an amendment in it if you emerge as the winner?

Sure. Because I will not give room for delay in other to discharge my duty to Nigeria student

If you were to advice the current financial secretary, what advice do you have for him?

My advice for him is to improve on his good works.

Come SUG 2020/2021 election, why should AAUAITES vote for you?

Because I want to serve.

What are your thought on godfatherism in politics?

I disagree with that, I don’t have time for that but for those that believe in that it’s let to them and I believe in work done and God crown my effort with success.

Give a message to all AAUAITES and your fellow aspirant, I mean from 001 upward.

My words for we aspirant is that we should remember we are going for this post not for our sake but to serve Nigeria student and we should know that it’s not a do or die affair, we should be  ready to work as one, make love and improve the union. Because it’s not an everlasting position which is for a little time, whatever you do now will speak for you in the nearest future and there is life after these corner of AAUA.
