Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba football team (AAUA LUMINARIES) have secured qualification for the quarter final of the 2021 Higher Institutions Football League tournament thanks for one-all draw against Obafemi Awolowo University’s OAU Giants in the second leg encounter at the Obafemi Awolowo University Sports Complex on Wednesday.
Neither of the teams could find the back of the net after 45minutes of intense action.
The deadlock was broken just minutes into the second half when Olaniyi Muyiwa, the man-of-the-match in the first leg of the encounter in Akungba opened the scoring for the host team in the 55th minute from a spot-kick, with the host team having a quarter-final spot in sight only for their hope to be crushed by Akinwale Bukunmi’s 90th-minute solo-strike.
The encounter ended one-one at Ile-Ife.
However, AAUA Luminaries advanced to the next stage of the tournament thanks to the away-goal rule.
The first leg of the encounter ended nil-nil in Akungba giving AAUA Luminaries an away goal advantage.
AAUA Luminaries will face the winner of today’s match between UNILAG MARINES and FUTA TIGERS in the quarter-final of the tournament.
