Election will be conducted by the time the new DSA settles down – Dr Owolewa

The former Dean of Students Affairs of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Dr Olusegun Owolewa has hinted that the election will be conducted by the time the new dean of students settles down in office.

Dr Owolewa said this during an online interview moderated by the duo of Adesola Ikulajolu and Adeosun Francis ‘Francopone, on one of the most powerful students group in AAUA known as MAKE AAUASU BETTER.

Speaking on the journey of serving as the DSA, Dr Owolewa said, he enjoyed the challenges that made him think out of the box.

“It is a very difficult task but I enjoyed the challenges. It stimulated me to think out of the box most times when I was challenged by students

“Our students are very intelligent. They are courageous. They are capable of critical thinking. They love truth. They are ready to follow once you are truthful.”

Dr Owolewa said, “The most difficult experience was the increment in the school fees. This had been done before I became the Dean. Two regimes had passed. Optimum and Bowbow regimes had laid the matter to rest but the students forced Sam Praise to wake it up.

“The riot of April, 2019 where the Management said no fee no test was my baptism of fire. It is not a matter of superiority. I am a realist. I have always been on the side of the students. I enjoyed doing this anywhere I found myself

Delayed student union election

Dr Owolewa said the delayed Student Union election is beyond the Student Union Executive Council (SUEC). He added the factor that students don’t pay school fees.

“Election will be conducted by the time the new DSA settles down. This is beyond the SUEC. If the Management does not give approvals, there is no magic that SUEC can do. It is paucity of funds

“I am not a member of your Union. The letter will only pass through me, what happens after is between the Bursary and your Student union Account.

“The union can collect the due on her own if all of you are committed to pay directly to the account. But you won’t be faithful. How many students pay school fees in good time? Check very well, they are not up to 2000.”
