AKUNGBA ACCIDENT: NANS MAKES CASE FOR INNOCENT STUDENTS ‘KILLED’ BY DANGOTE TRUCK

The National Association of Nigeria Student (NANS) under the leadership of Comrade Sunday Asefon, on Friday February 12, 2021, has revealed the outcome of their meeting with Dangote Group on behalf of the students who were victims of the unfortunate issue that occurred some weeks ago.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the incumbent president of the association. He added that NANS under his leadership will do everything possible to ensure improve welfare and adequate protection of the interest of Nigerian Students local and global.

On January 23, 2021, an accident occurred in front of the University main gate which claimed more than 10 lives in Akungba-Akoko, the host community of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA), after a Dangote truck rammed some shops.

The truck conveying bags of cement passing through Akungba was said to have lost control when it was close to the university main gate, which resulted into the unfortunate incident.

Meanwhile the outcome of the meeting between the NANS and Dangotes groups have been made known to the public in a statement signed by the National President of NANS, Sunday Asefon also known as Revolutionary President.

NANS makes case for innocent students killed during the incident

Recall that NANS leadership had announced in a press statement issued after supervision of burial arrangement of the deceased students among the 15 total victims of DANGOTE truck tragedy accident of January 23, 2021, at the main gate of AAU Akungba Ondo state.

Demanded justice for the innocent souls lost and action against Dangote Groups in reaction to the ugly incident

“We had in the press statement made demands to DANGOTE GROUP on the ways to avoid BOYCOTT of all her products and declaration of all her trucks persona non grata 10km away from our tertiary institution across the country by Nigerian students in protest of the untimely death of our students  caused by company recklessly truck drivers.

“Yesterday we met with the management of Dangote Groups where we reiterated our demands on behalf of our fallen students and safety of entire Nigerian masses.

“The following were agreed:

“1. That Dangote Groups will compensate the family of the deceased students.

“2. That as part of compensation, Dangote Group should give employment slot to qualified member each of the bereaved families and where there are no qualified family member for employment, Dangote should award scholarship up to the university level to a member of the family.

“3. We requested that Dangote through tax arrangement with Federal Government should fix the Isua-Akungba road.

“4. That in their CSR, projects around the school metropolis by Dangote groups should executed and name in honor of the victims of January 23, 2021 truck crash in AAU Akungba to immortalize all including our fallen students.

“An all inclusive committee was set up to ensure the agreements reached in the meeting are executed within the stipulated time.

“The meeting in contrary to some fifth columnists had in attendance the Senate President, Comr. Chuks Okafor, Vice President National Affairs Comr. Yasiz Tanko, Comr Samuel Kappo NANS Zone D Coordinator and other elected Executive of NANS, The Leadership of NANS JCC Ondo State also in attendance and the Students’ Union President of AAU – Akungba made a plea to be absent due to already scheduled important event.

“We advise those who are bent on undermining and misrepresenting the new leadership of NANS through malicious and ridiculous lies for personal reasons to be warned as their day of reckoning is near.

“NANS under my leadership will do everything possible to ensure improve welfare and adequate protection of the interest of Nigerian Students local and global.”
