AFCON 2022: Super Eagles arrive in Cameroon ahead of tournament’s kickoff; as the race to find Odion Ighalo’s replacement intensifies

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have arrived at Garoua, Cameroon earlier this morning ahead of the African Cup of Nations(AFCON) tournament that is scheduled to start on Sunday, January 9 2022 in Cameroon.

The team was able to travel to Cameroon with team captain Ahmed Musa who had earlier been permitted to leave the team’s camp in Abuja to be with his family members following the news that he lost a loved one.

Unfortunately, Nigerian forward and Former Manchester United player Odion Ighalo won’t be available for the tournament after his club Al Shabab insisted that the striker will be breaching his contract should he feature at the AFCON.

Meanwhile, multiple reports are confirming that Cyriel Dessers who plays for Dutch side Feyenoord has been contacted by the Super Eagles coach Eguavoen as a replacement for Ighalo for AFCON.

Dessers has been in great form for his club this season netting 11 goals already may likely join the squad in Cameroon for the tournament.

Super Eagles will begin their quest for glory once again when they face the most successful country in the history of the tournament the Pharaohs of Egypt that have won the trophy for a record number of 7times on Tuesday, January 11 in the first Group D encounter in the tournament.
