AAUASU Welfare Director Felicitate with Women on International Women’s Day

More than 300 persons attended the virtual interactive session held by the Student Union’s welfare director, Odole Mojidola Faith, today.

The programme, in collaboration with Stella Orji, who is the Ondo branch chairperson of National Female Association Of Nigeria (NFSAN), was organized to celebrate the 2022 International Women’s Day.

Speaking at the session for the day, generally celebrated across the world on March 8, Stella Orji did justice to the topic ‘Addressing the Issues of Gender Inequality in/on our Campus.’

“In 1910, Clara Zetkin came up with the idea of making the day internationally and proposed the idea at a Copenhagen International Conference of Working Women. There were 100 women at present, representing 17 nations, and they unanimously agreed with her suggestion.”

“Also, the United Nations began commemorating this day in 1975 with her first theme which is “Celebrating the Past, Planning for the Future.”

“This theme is still very much applicable to the present because today we’re celebrating not just the past but all women in our present world, while we keep planning for the nearest and far future.”

“There is this saying that a future that is not connected to the present does not exist. As we celebrate women across the globe, I will like to lay more emphasis on the fact that the woman is not merely existing but also an important entity needed to be celebrated and appreciated in this cosmos.”

She added her voice to the fight against gender prejudice and the dichotomy that exist between both men and women.
