AAUASU PRO SPEAKS ON TRANSPORTATION FEE HIKE

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko Student Union, Adegbeyeni Oluwafemi, popularly known as Barryfem, has affirmed that the agreed fee for motorcycle within Akungba community is N50 per drop.

The AAUASU parrot and image maker added that the transportation fare for campus shuttle is N30.

Barryfem made this known in a circular released from the office of the P.R.O dated Thursday, March 4, 2021 informing the student on the issue of transport with Akungba community.

Recall that weeks ago the bike men increased their motorcycle fee per drop from N50 to N100 without the consultation of anybody, not even the Alale of Akungba. This attracted the interest of AAUASU and in which they described it as ‘illegal exhortation from the student’ because they never gave any notice on the increment.

In the meeting, which was held on Friday, February 23, 2021, which yielded a positive result by them bringing it back to the formal price. During the meeting the riders makes it known to AAUASU the reason for the increment, the students of AAUA were represented by the President, Senate President, the Vice President, P.R.O among others.

The Student Union executives did not only speak for the hike in fee but also agitated for the reduction on pure water in the community.

While for the case of the shuttle drivers they increased the price of per drop within the campus to which was formally N30 to N50 without the notice of the university management in which AAUASU President Comdr. Supreme describe as illegal extortion from student. He also emphasis on the issue of electricity and insecurity with the community of Akungba which is not safe for the student.

TRANSPORT INFORMATION

The agitation of the students’ Union leaders on Bike fee, was done and the minimum fee(subject to distance) was pegged at #50 per drop.

The firm agreement between the Union leaders has negotiation in it clause and we urge all to always negotiate the fee to avoid issues with the riders.

Concerning the Shuttle Buses on campus, the union leaders met with the leaders of the Shuttle drivers and it was agreed that shuttle fee should be reversed from #50 to the normal #30. All students should have this in mind and pay #30 only for now.

This morning, we prevailed on the way bike men do disturb free movement by blocking students at the SUB small gate. The D.P.O of Akungba came down to the place today and promised to ensure the riders move back and stop blocking free passage of students at small gate. He also said a patrol would be sent down to the place tomorrow.

A proper demarcation to serve as limit to the bike men is also going to be put in place. While continuing this examination, we urge all students to always remain calm and peaceful.
