AAUA management declares May 3 as public holiday

The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) has announced Monday, May 3, 2021 as a public holiday to celebrate this year’s International Workers’ Day.

The International Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day in most countries and often referred to as May Day, is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the International Labour Movement and occurs every year on May 1.

This was announced in a circular released by the Registrar, Mr Gbenga Arajulu on Friday 30 April, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor of the University that there shouldn’t be any lectures across the institution on Monday.

In his words, he said that all activities should be closed down on Monday except the staff with essential duties.

He said, “I write on behalf of the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga E. Ige, to inform all staff and students that the Federal Government has declared Monday, 3rd May, 2021 as public holiday to mark Workers’ Day.

“The Acting Vice Chancellor has, therefore, directed that the University be closed for official duties on Monday, 3rd May, 2021, except those on essential duties. All members of staff and students are requested to note that official activities resume on Tuesday, 4th May, 2021.”

 After directing that the University be closed for official duties on Monday, the Registrar wished the University community a peaceful holiday.

“On behalf of the Acting Vice Chancellor, I wish you all a peaceful holiday,” he added.
