2021 HIFL: AAUA Luminaries Set To Host OAU Giants

After few months break since the conclusion of the qualifying round for the 2021 tournament of the Higher Institutions Football League(HIFL), arguably the biggest higher institutions football tournament in Nigeria will take centre stage again in some campuses across Nigeria as the round of 16 matches for this year’s tournament kicks off on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.

Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko football team known as AAUA LUMINARIES will play against Obafemi Awolowo University football team nicknamed OAU GIANTS in one of the matches slated for the opening day of the tournament.

AAUA Luminaries will host the contingents from Osun state, OAU GIANTS in an encounter that is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at the AAUA Sports Complex by 4pm.

Simultaneously, LAUTECH HUNTERS will host FUTMINNA TRANSFORMERS at LAUTECH Sports Complex; University Of Maiduguri football team(UNIMAID Desert Warriors) will travel to Kano to face Bayero University Kano football team known as BUKSTALLION at the BUK Sports Complex.

Meanwhile on Thursday, University Of Benin representative, UNIBEN Royals will host University Of Calabar Malabites at University Of Benin Sports Complex at 4pm

This stage of the tournament will feature two-legged ties with teams playing each other home and away.

Speaking at the draws for the round of 16 last month, the Director of PACE Sports and Entertainment Marketing Limited, Sola Fijab lauded the competing institutions and encouraged them to behave in the sportsmanlike manner in which they conducted themselves during the qualifiers.

“We are now at a very exciting stage of the league. What was witnessed during the qualifiers was the tip of the iceberg. The schools are ready and what we assured lovers of collegiate sports is double excitement. We appreciate the support of NUGA and our sponsors Nivea Men and Minimie for their trust in HiFL and as we deliver value to all our stakeholders,” Fijabi said.
