The student debaters of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko have been selected to represent South West in a National debate organized by Monday Diamond Foundation after competing with different Universities to emerge winners in the Southwest.
The organization is in collaboration with EUREKA Gie (An international Educational Consortium), Muslim and Christians Youths Initiative, Youth Alliance for Good Governance and Youth Advocacy for Development and Empowerment.
The debate organized by Monday Diamond Foundation, a Non-governmental organization promoting illiteracy eradication and other humanitarian services, was held on Wednesday and Thursday, September 7th& 8th respectively as AAUA qualified to represent the South West geopolitical zone in the grand finale.
Also, AAUA Team defeated Babcock University with 5 points, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) with 6 points, scoring 52 points while Babcock had 47 points and FUTA had 46 points
Meanwhile, the debaters had earlier competed with other Universities from different states consecutively in the first two days in Abuja from there, and from other Universities in South West in which they are in the front lead.
Speaking on the topic of the two Preliminary stages of the debate, Lingering Asuu strike in the Nigeria Educational System; who is to blame, and the second stage, Northern or Southern Presidency; Panacea to National Peace, Unity and Progress of Nigeria.
The Total number of Nigerian tertiary institutions partaking in the debate is 148 and AAUA student participants are three, namely; Abdul Haqq Mutairu a student of the Faculty of Law, Diwura Williams a student for Animal and Environmental Biology and Blessing Ahmodu, an Early Childhood Education student.
However, the grand finale will be held Friday, September 9 at Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton Hotel, Abuja with the topic “Nigeria Independence Anniversary, Dissecting the Leadership Performance of Nigeria Democratic Dispensations”.
