2022 HiFL: AAUA Luminaries failed to advance to quarter-final after double loss to LASU Blazers

The darling team of the students of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, the AAUA Luminaries football team has crashed out of the 2022 edition of the Higher Institution Football League(HIFL), after failing to restore the deficit accrued in the first leg loss of the round of 16 to LASU Blazers in Akungba two weeks ago.

AAUA Luminaries suffered another defeat in the return leg in Lagos on Wednesday after hosts LASU Blazers came back from behind to pick up a 2-1 win to cruise past to the quarter-final on a 4-1 aggregate, after winning the first leg two-nil in Ondo state.

Luminaries reached the final of the last edition of the competition but lost by a lone goal to UNIMAID Desert Warriors from the University of Maiduguri, will shift their focus on improving the squad as the team goes into competing in subsequent tournaments.

LASU Blazers will now await the winner of the local derby fixture between FUOYE Dazzlers and EKSU Mountaineers who won the first leg by a lone goal to know their opponent for the next round.
